As busy, sociable spaces, kitchens are the perfect place to be bold with brighter colours. In her recent kitchen project,@miafelcepaired vibrantLight Goldcabinets with the soft pink neutral,Light Beauvais, in our upcycled Re:mix finish.

We spoke to Mia about why she chose our eco-friendlyRe:mix finishfor her kitchen project…

What was your inspiration for your kitchen project?

“We recently bought a house that needs a lot of work and decided to upcycle the existing kitchen. We wanted to re-use as much of the original kitchen as possible and the units were in good condition, so I thought painting them would be a great update.

We found an old wallpaper behind one of the cupboards, which has a green and yellow floral pattern. I was inspired by the pattern and colour palette, and I wanted to keep the retro feeling of the kitchen cupboards, so I decided to go with yellow to keep it bright and fun. I wanted to use a neutral on the walls as a backdrop to the bold yellow, so decided on ‘Light Beauvais’ from theRe:mix range, which has a lovely peach tone.”

Why did you decide to use Re:mix, our collection of honest, upcycled paints?

“I love the concept of the Re:mix collection. With this being a kitchen upcycle, we were trying to be more sustainable in our approach and I think this was a really good match. I’m happy that we’ve used recycled paint that otherwise may have gone to waste.”

Painting kitchen cabinetry is such a great way to add vibrancy to a scheme. Do you have any tips?

“I sanded down the doors and usedLittle Greene All Surface Primerto give a good base for painting. I then did three coats ofIntelligent Eggshelland used a small foam roller which gave a really good finish.”

We love the floral details, fabrics and accessories that you’ve incorporated. How do you choose these?

“When choosing fabrics and accessories, it’s important that they follow a colour palette and have the same tones. Stick to three colours to keep it cohesive, but vary the shades as this will give a more elevated look. As an example, I chose ‘Light Gold’and ‘Light Beauvais’, then stuck to yellows and varying shades of pinks. I already had the turquoise toaster and kettle, so kept this as an accent colour which also comes through in some of the crockery and accessories.”

什么是一些of your best advice when it comes to decorating and DIY?

“My best advice is to choose things you love and that are personal to you. There are so many trends online, especially with Instagram, but if you choose things that you truly love, you won’t get bored.

I love adding personal touches and have a slightly eclectic style, meaning I’m always surrounded by things that evoke memories; I framed the old piece of wallpaper in the kitchen and it’s a nice little reminder of what we found whilst doing this project.”

What projects do you have coming up?

“Our next project is our bedroom. I want to make it a calm, relaxing room to escape the renovation chaos, so I currently have my eye onBoringdon Green”。
